I started this blog back in 2010 to chronicle the curious and often perilous journeys facing new fathers. Aka me. As anyone with kids will tell you, there is no definitive instruction manual on how to do this. That’s not to say there aren’t thousands of books out there preaching their own answer to whatever the drama du jour may be, but every child, every parent, is different. One size doesn’t even come close to fitting all.
So I guess you could say I’m doing this for any number of reasons. Sometimes it helps to talk myself through things, reflect on my words. Maybe my tales of woe, joy, caution, or whatever, will resonate with other parents, who can either vicariously learn from my mistakes, or capitalize on my successes without all of the trial-and-error stuff. I know there’s also a blogging community out there, and while my wife has “mom groups” and “mom friends” she can turn to when she wants to talk about the latest shenanigans, we dads aren’t always as lucky to have the time or network of other dads who want to open up and shoot the breeze about how complicated all of this stuff is.
Most of all, I think of this as an opportunity to capture some of the moments in time that go by all too quickly and preserve them for the future enjoyment of my friends, family, and children.
Thanks for stopping by.
